Animals Around Our Property

Kittens

Shenandoah is still not sure about the goat kids!

This cow payed us a visit the other day.  It was pretty interesting!!!

We finally got it to go away.

I got some good pictures of this squirrel in our tree.

I liked this one.

A beautiful giant moth.

Seth put his hand by the moth for this picture so we could give a better idea of its size.

P.S.  I hope everyone has a great and safe Memorial Day weekend!!!

In Which We Watch a Bee...

When I was going through my hives a few weeks ago, I came across some extra comb that needed to be removed from the hive.  So, I brought it inside to save.  On examining it further, we were fascinated to see a drone bee emerging from a cell!!!  We watched it from the first little antenna to the time it emerged in full.  Since drones don't have stingers, we didn't have to worry about that. :)  After we watched it for a while, we took it back out to the hive.

Making Cheese

We have had a lot of extra milk lately so.... Sabrina has been making cheese!!!  It has been turning out great.  We've made some new and delicious recipes with it as well.  Here are a few couple pictures.

Checking for curds.

Cochran Chronicles - May 2010

Greetings to everyone!!!

We hope you all are doing well and enjoying this month of May.  We (as usual:) have had quite a bit going on around here.

We've been doing a lot of planting lately.  It will be fun once all of our new berry bushes and our garden start producing (although the latter will come much sooner than the former.)

Thunderstorms have been quite frequent as of late -much to my delight!  We are thankful for God's hand of protection during the really bad storms last week.  Most of them passed us to the south/southeast.  There were several tornadoes and southern Oklahoma even experienced a couple EF 4's!!!  I've been kept pretty busy tracking them and keeping my family up-to-date (I kind of took that job upon myself and I love it!)  Although, I have had a couple sleepless nights this past week with the weather radio going off every few minutes!!!

Then we also had some birthdays!  Mine and Sayer's were the end of April and beginning of May.

Not only did Sayer celebrate his birthday on May 5th, but I also had oral surgery!!  Yes, unfortunately my root canal that I had in March was not done properly. The tooth with the root canal (my back molar) had been a problem ever since the wisdom tooth behind it made a cavity in my molar when it was coming in.  I was not feeling well at all and after some investigation,  we found out that my tooth was still extremely infected.  The infection was causing me to feel quite terrible.  So, we had that tooth out as well as the wisdom tooth behind it.  I immediately noticed a difference in the way I felt and I praise the Lord to be doing so much better!!!  The doctor told us that it could be 4-6 weeks until I feel all of the way better though.   Anyway, you can laugh at me in the pictures of Sayer's birthday (my family insisted on taking them! :) - I look like I had the mumps or something!  I think I look awful, but my family told me I actually looked better than I had in several weeks (I guess that has to say something of the way I was feeling :).

Well, that is a brief recap of life at the Cochran's the past few weeks.  Blessings to all!!!

Persevero,
~Savannah

Sayer's 5th Birthday -May 5th

Sayer is such a great little brother.  He is growing up so (as well as too:) fast!  We love you Sayer.  Happy Birthday!!!

Then Shenandoah decided to lay by me!
(I tried to persuade my family not to take pictures of me - I looked terrible!!!  But, I guess it is a part of our family history:)

(I promise the dark stuff on my ice wrap isn't blood.  It's chocolate shake!  Eating with a swollen mouth full of gauze is not easy :)

Opening his bike helmet.

He put it on backwards and thought it would make a good knight helmet!

My 18th Birthday -April 29th, 2010

I have been so very blessed by my wonderful family and all that the Lord has done for me!  Here are some pictures from my special day.

Sabrina did an awesome job on my Chocolate Boston Cake (my favorite!), but I was called upon to help with the icing! :)

A closer look.
(Daddy always does a different theme for our birthday signs.  Each day he adds a little more to the picture.  This year he did one of my favorite things.  For those of you who don't already know me well enough, can you guess?  Thunderstorms!!!  I love tracking all of the major storms we get around here in the Spring and Summer! :)

By my birthday sign.

Stasia made this sign for the back of my chair!
