Cochran Chronicles

Well, as you can see, an overview of life with the Cochran's is long overdue!!!  I hope to remedy that situation now.

We have had a very full month since daddy's arrival home just over four weeks ago.  From his first week back in-processing, to two weeks off (for coming back from a deployment) filled with a few projects, visiting with friends as well as many fun family times.  We played many games of "Nertz" even with all the younger ones joining in and Shenandoah rooting for us on the sidelines (well, pretty much playing with her own deck of cards :).

We've had many good times with friends and have enjoyed catching up with everyone after our time away.  We are praising the Lord for His protection and provision for the families of our church a couple weeks ago who live close to where the horrible wild fires were.  How He carefully worked each situation, often turning the fire and/or orchestrating the timing of each event, down to the very minutes of time needed to be able to save lives of animals or property was amazing and telling of His mighty providence and love for His people.  We had quite the adventure trying to dodge and get around road blocks to try to help - the trip that normally takes 2 hours took about 4!!!  Several of the families in our church came very close to losing their homes, but the Lord preserved them all.  One of the families was able to stay with us and then another family from church for a few days while taking care of  smoke damage to their home.

We had two trips to Kansas City - one of them planned and another not.  Which leads me to the most difficult experience of our last month...our grandmother, daddy's mother, went to be with Jesus after nearly 88 years of life on earth.  We rejoice for the time that we had with her and also because we know that she is rejoicing with the Lord.  She was greatly loved and will be very much missed.

Our cousins from TX were able to stay with us on their way to and from Kansas City for the funeral.  We wish the circumstances could have been different, but it was great to be able to see them again.  Hopefully it won't be near as long until the next time that we are able to be together!

We've started school back, had a couple more goat kids born, gotten all of our animals back (thank you to the "O's" for keeping them so long!!), added laying hens to our animals once again, and I know I'm forgetting a ton of other stuff!!! :)  As I sort through the pictures from the past month and try and get some individual posts up of different happenings, it will help me make sure not to miss anything (hopefully)!!!

I'm excited for this coming weekend because I'll be harvesting honey once again!!!  Yay!!!  I can't wait!!!  I got a "sneak peak" taste of my honey and it is delicious this year.  It's fun how the flavor differs from year to year, but is always so good.

We've been greatly blessed by cooler temperatures and being able to have the windows open at night as well as in the morning!!!  It's hard to believe it is already getting to be that time of year again.  We've also been blessed with some much needed rain and more soon to come (if the forecast is correct! :)!!

Mr. Bender gave a very good message at church a couple of weeks ago from John chapter 7 on time and how Jesus never wasted any moment of it, but profitably filled each second of His time here on earth.  What an example for us and it really convicted me of how often I fall short of it!!

Have a blessed evening everyone!!  I won't make any promises, but hopefully this blog will be less vacant in the near future...

Blessings,

~ Savannah
