In Loving Memory...

...of Mary Lamison [Cochran] Shafer

"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." ~ Psalm 116:15

Jesus called grandma home to be with Him on August 12th, 2012.  She went peacefully into the arms of her Savior.  We are grieving her loss, but also rejoicing to know that she is at home with the Lord.  Please pray for continued comfort for us and all of daddy's family.

 Grandma and Grandpa Cochran

Grandpa Cochran

As many of you know, grandpa Cochran died in an airline crash when daddy was just three years old.  I wish we could have known him!!  He flew in the South Pacific during WWII and I'm sure he would have had so many wonderful stories to tell us!!

Grandma and Grandpa Shafer

Grandma married grandpa Shafer several years after daddy's father died.

All of us kids with Grandma and Grandpa Shafer - June 2011

Grandma and Daddy - January 2012

Here are some memories of Grandma...
  • Grandma loved babies.  She was always delighted when each new grand-baby was born and would sit for hours just holding them (as they allowed!!).
  • She loved flowers.  She kept beautiful flower beds in her front yard and also loved to grow African Violets by the window in their living room.
  • Grandma was a beautiful seamstress.  As long as she was able to sew, she always made beautiful dresses for my sisters and I - a couple new ones each year.  She even included matching doll dresses for our babies as well!!
  • Speaking of dolls, they were another of grandma's favorite - she had SO many!!!
  • Grandma also did a lovely job at crochet.  In fact, she's the one who taught me!  She would sit patiently for hours by my side to teach me a new stitch or help me learn a pattern.
  • She new some of our favorite foods and would always make it a point to have roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, and rolls (daddy's favorite meal!) whenever we came to visit.  She also made it a habit to make a favorite of us kids - "green stuff" - better known as watergate salad. :)
  • Her cinnamon rolls were THE BEST!!!
  • The list could go on, but I'll stop here for now...
We're so thankful for the time that we had with grandma and look forward to seeing her again someday in heaven.

Cochrans,

We are so sorry for your loss. She sounds like a wonderful woman. Bob and I know the pain of losing our parents...they are all in heaven now. My mom loved our babies too. I really miss her. Treasure the precious memories of her until you see her again, where you will never have to say good-bye.

Blessings,

Cindy
